Person confesses to sexual crimes involving children at summer program
A person who spiked treats with sedative and provided them to youngsters at a summer camp in Leicestershire has pleaded guilty to sexual crimes against two boys both between nine and ten.
The defendant was arrested after eight children and an older person experienced illness at the facility in the summer month.
The 76-year-old, from that region, pleaded guilty to a total of 17 charges when he stood at the courthouse on recently.
Nevertheless, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was against a nine-year-old boy.
The accused was held in detention ahead of a additional proceeding on late November.
'Candy game'
The legal representative, handling the case, outlined Ruben's offending to the court.
She said his those affected were disadvantaged youngsters who were participating in a summer camp which he ran.
The man played a "candy game" with the youngsters, the legal counsel stated, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were preparing to sleep and ask them to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".
She stated to the judge the man had engaged in this activity with the boys "over an extended period", and youngsters had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.
She said the man had been able to explain this over a long period as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had concerns in July 2025.
Mrs Prior KC continued: "This year his family member had suspicions about the activities, with valid cause.
"They chose" to have a look in the individual's items."
The prosecutor stated objects including infant oil, Vaseline and syringes were found, and his stepson alerted the law enforcement about his worries.
She said the defendant continued to engage in the "treat game" with six children that time - July 26th - and they were all ill the next day.
"The police had not responded by that stage," she continued.
The police watchdog, the investigative body, had stated that it was examining the police response of the situation.
The legal representative said the minors were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so the stepson contacted the law enforcement once more.
She said the man then played the "sweet game" in a room of five children.
